Professional Experience

Jane Short has been a trusted advisor to wealthy families for more than 20 years. She joined Waypoint in 2016, having previously held senior positions at U.S. Trust and UBS Financial Services. Jane understands the responsibilities and opportunities afforded by wealth and appreciates that every family has unique and sometimes complex challenges. She loves facilitating conversations between generations and assisting families with every aspect of their wealth management, especially philanthropic planning and business succession.


Jane is a graduate of Sweet Briar College where she majored in English. At Sweet Briar, Jane was a Benedict Scholar, Vice President of the student government, and Captain of the tennis team. As an alumna, Jane has served on the Sweet Briar Alumnae Association Board and has chaired the college’s Boxwood Circle Committee.

Jane completed post-graduate work at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania as well as at the Strome College of Business at Old Dominion University where she qualified for the Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) designation.

Personal Information

Active in the community, Jane serves as past Chair of the Virginia Symphony Orchestra and is also on the Boards of Directors of ACCESS College Foundation, ForKids and the United Way of South Hampton Roads. She is a Trustee of the Eastern Virginia Medical School Foundation and is a member of the Professional Advisory Committee for the Hampton Roads Community Foundation. Jane serves as Chair of Women United and is a member of the United Way’s Tocqueville Society Cabinet. She is a graduate of LEAD Hampton Roads, as well as the CIVIC Leadership Institute, and is past President of the Junior League of Miami.

In 2012, Jane was honored by Inside Business magazine as a “Women in Business Achievement Award” recipient and, in 2013, by the YWCA as a “Woman of Distinction.” Inside Business has also named Jane to the “Power List, People Who Shape and Influence Hampton Roads,” for the past three consecutive years. In 2017, Jane was appointed by the Hampton Roads Estate Planning Council to the National Association of Estate Planners (AEP®).

In her spare time, Jane enjoys walking with friends on the “feeder road” in Virginia Beach; skiing in Colorado with long-time pals who live in Denver; spending time in Maine and traveling to other interesting destinations with her husband, Win; spoiling her four beautiful granddaughters; and, desperately trying to catch up on her Book Club reading!
